Twelve Famous Men

In 1923 the twelve wealthiest men in the world gathered for a meeting at the Edgewater Beach Hotel in Chicago. The who’s who of wealth and fame, they controlled more money than the total amount contained in the United States Treasury. Among them were Charles Schwab, president of the largest independent steel company; Richard Whitney, president of the New York Stock Exchange; Leon Fraser, president of the Bank of International Settlements; Ivar Kreuger, head of Kreuger Steel.

Where did all their wealth get them? As we look at their lives further down the track we discover that three of the twelve committed suicide, two died as bankrupts, and two were sent to prison on fraud related charges and died soon after being released.
