There were once two lawyers trying a case in the middle of a very devout part of the country. One lawyer thought he would impress the jury by quoting from the Bible. Wanting to cast doubt upon the reliability of an opposition witness he said in a grave voice, "We have it on the highest authority that it has been said, 'All that a man has will he give for his skin.'" He sat down, pleased with himself, but his opponent rose and moved towards the jury once more. A wry grin coming across his face, the opposing lawyer triumphantly said, "I am so impressed that my distinguished colleague regards as the highest authority the one who said, 'All that a man has will he give for his skin.' of course, you all know that this is a quotation from the bible, from the book of Job in fact, and the one who utters it is the devil. And that is whom my opponent regards as the highest authority!"
Quoting the bible selectively can be dangerous!
